About
Hello! My name is Gemma Shanahan. As a qualified Naturopath, my passion is to work with people through my practice, Dandelion Naturopathy, to improve their quality of life by assisting them to uncover the causes of their health challenges and support them to achieve optimal health and wellbeing.
Thanks to my Mother’s influence, I have had a keen interest in health and wellbeing from an early age. This interest led me to study at Endeavour College of Natural Health, where I gained my Bachelor of Health Science, and become a member of the National Herbalists Association of Australia.
I am now delighted to be working with clients through my practice Dandelion Naturopathy, the name of which was influenced by the common Dandelion, Latin name Taraxacum officinale. Although this is a common little plant, with its happy bright yellow flowers, it is a powerful herb – in particular through the support it provides the liver to help it detoxify the many pollutants and chemicals that our bodies are exposed to in a variety of ways.
My Treatment Approach
As a Naturopath I see the body as a whole and focus on finding the underlying cause(s) of every client’s health issue(s) before creating specific and individualised treatment plans for them.
My goal is to work with and support every one of my clients to reach their best possible level of health and quality of life by bringing their bodies back into balance through a range of treatment options including:
- Diet and lifestyle
- Herbal medicine
- Nutritional supplementation
- Flower essence therapy
- Hydrotherapy
- Pathology testing
In addition, to achieve the optimum outcome, I draw on evidence from scientific research, clinical experience and traditional knowledge.
As a strong believer in educating clients to become ‘students of their own health’ I provide a range of tools, knowledge and strategies for each one to use to maintain their improved wellbeing after their treatment period at Dandelion Naturopathy.
Areas of special interest to me are:
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Fatigue
- Gastrointestinal system conditions
- Diabetes
- Weight loss
- Autoimmune conditions
- Adrenal and thyroid health
- Female reproductive conditions
In my practice I abide by, and am governed by, the Six Naturopathic Principles and the Naturopathic Therapeutic Order. To learn more, click here!
